Hillcrest is bordered by Forestdale on the west and Mount Lindesay Hwy on the east. Part of the suburb is on the crest of a hill. The Wineglass Water Tower (named for its shape) on the top of the hill is visible for many kilometres; it is illuminated at night.

Peverell Street runs north to south down the left of the suburb and is located close to the Golf Range and local parks.
